Indonesian stocks were mixed on Friday following a surprise rate cut by its central bank with mining sector soared in midday trade.
Jakarta composite index retreated 4.291 points (-0.069%) to 6,234.954 while LQ4 slipped 0.04% at 971.896. There were 8.983 billion shares traded worth of Rp3.321 trillion, including transaction of Rp297.98 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp110.5 billion in regular market. 188 shares rose, while 189 declined, 144 unchanged, and 218 untraded.
According to JISDOR, rupiah declined 15 points (-0.11%) at 14,249 while Spot rate fell 15 points (-0.11%) at 14,245 against the USD.
Stocks in Asia were mixed on Friday as investors remain focus on the upcoming speech from the Fed’s chairman Jerome Powell later in the day. Meanwhile, tensions between Japan and South Korea escalated on Thursday when Seoul said it was cancelling an intelligence-sharing pact with Tokyo amid a bitter trade dispute.
On the data front, Japan’s consumer price inflation fell to 0.5% year-on-year in July 2019 from 0.7% in the previous month and in line with market expectations. Oil prices were mixed with Brent added 9 cents (+0.15%) at $60.01 barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate added 2 cents (+0.04%) at $55.37 a barrel.
